Our Camp

our journey so far

During the summer of 2013, we moved our location to The Creekside Plaza in Fallbrook. This new location gave the children more outdoor space and a charming place to call their school. At this time, we began to incorporate more LifeWays elements into the program and shifted from a preschool to a combined preschool and kindergarten for children aged 2 - 6 years old. We planted a garden and modified aspects of outdoor kindergarten programs to build a program, creating a rhythm of long outside days and long inside days.  Click to read more ....

More about our journey

why waldorf for early childhood

The quality of the physical environment of a Waldorf Early Childhood class is integral to our educational goals for the children - it is a sanctuary where all the child's senses are protected and nurtured. One can breathe easily, relax and play according to the impulses of one's heart. Waldorf teachers strive to preserve the innocence and innate wonder of early childhood for the sake of healthy physical, intellectual and emotional development, and work to create an environment filled with activities worthy of imitation by the young child. More about why Waldorf for early childhood

gum tree nature camp Day to Day

We follow a seasonal and weekly rhythm.  We build into our schedule the idea of “breathing in” and “breathing out” which means that we alternate between focused, concentrated activities (breathing in) and self directed, independent time (breathing out). This breathing in and breathing out method is used to maintain a balance for the children, one that is neither boring nor over stimulating. A good rhythm reduces the amount of instructions needed as regularly repeated activities become habit. Each day includes creative play and work, circle, story, tidy-up time, lunch and snack time, hikes and care of our natural environment.

We  follow the LifeWays and Heckmann’s Nokken model. There are rites of passage in the program and each age and stage has a place and a way of understanding each other.
